Phrozen Dental Ortho Model Resin: High-Temperature Resin for Aligner Fabrication
The Phrozen Dental Ortho Model Resin is a high-temperature orthodontic model resin for Australian dental clinics and laboratories producing thermoformed aligners, retainers, and occlusal appliances. It has a glass transition temperature of 220°C and a heat deflection temperature of 61.9°C at 0.45 MPa, which means the printed model holds its geometry through the full thermoforming cycle without deforming under the heat and pressure applied during aligner sheet pressing.
The thermal performance of an ortho model resin is the most critical property in a thermoforming workflow. When a clear aligner sheet is pressed over the model, any dimensional change in the model under heat directly transfers to the finished appliance as a fit error. The Ortho Model Resin's HDT of 61.9°C at 0.45 MPa and Tg of 220°C provide a substantial thermal margin above the temperatures typically reached during standard thermoforming processes, protecting the accuracy of the aligner geometry from the first press through to the last in a batch run.
The resin prints in a low-reflective matte grey at 50 µm layer resolution. The matte grey surface reduces glare during clinical examination of occlusal contacts, interproximal relationships, and arch form, which is relevant both for treatment planning from the model and for quality checking finished prints before thermoforming. At 50 µm resolution the resin captures individual cusp morphology, bracket placement zones, and pontic saddle geometry with the detail that orthodontic model accuracy demands.
Post-processing uses 95% IPA in the Phrozen Wash+ for 120 seconds. Avoid rubbing the surface during cleaning as this can affect surface precision. Post-cure using the Phrozen Cure+ at the correct wavelength to achieve full mechanical properties.
The Ortho Model Resin is suited to thermoformed aligner moulds, retainer models, orthodontic study models, occlusal splint templates, and mouthguard moulds.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is purpose-built for orthodontic workflows including thermoformed clear aligner fabrication, orthodontic study models, and retainer fabrication. The matte grey finish and 50 µm resolution make it well suited to detailed orthodontic applications.
The resin has a glass transition temperature of 220°C, making it stable under the heat and pressure of the thermoforming process. Models will not deform or warp when a clear aligner sheet is pressed over them.
The Phrozen Dental Ortho Model Resin is compatible with any MSLA resin 3D printer. Validated print profiles are available for the Phrozen Sonic CS+ and Sonic LS+. For best results use the recommended exposure settings from the Phrozen user guide.
For the Sonic CS+: layer height 50 µm, exposure time 1 s, bottom exposure 35 s, rest time 1 to 2 s, lift distance 7 mm, lifting speed 50 mm/min. For the Sonic LS+: layer height 50 µm, exposure time 1 s, bottom exposure 30 s, rest time 2 to 3 s, lift distance 7 mm, lifting speed 50 mm/min.
Remove the model from the build plate and wash in 95% IPA using the Phrozen Wash+ for 120 seconds. Avoid rubbing the surface as this can affect precision tolerances. After cleaning, air dry or leave in a dark place for up to 30 minutes before post-curing.
Use the Phrozen Cure+ or Cure V2 post-curing unit, or any compatible post-curing lamp with the same wavelength. Proper post-curing is essential to achieve the full mechanical properties including Shore D 82 hardness and 220°C heat resistance.
The resin prints in matte grey. The low-reflective matte finish is intentional, helping orthodontic professionals examine fine surface detail and plan treatment without glare or reflection interfering with visual inspection.
The Ortho Model Resin is optimised specifically for thermoforming workflows, with a much higher glass transition temperature of 220°C compared to 65°C for the water-washable resin. The water-washable resin is better suited to diagnostic and study models where thermoforming is not required. The ortho resin requires IPA cleaning rather than water.
