Description

Phrozen Rock Black Stiff Resin: High Toughness Engineering MSLA Resin

Phrozen Rock Black Stiff is an engineering grade MSLA photopolymer resin for engineers, industrial prototypers, product designers, and print service providers who need parts that combine rigidity with genuine impact resistance and heat tolerance. It is sold in Australia exclusively through 3D Cast, the official Australian distributor for Phrozen Technology.

The defining mechanical characteristic of Rock Black Stiff is its notched Izod impact strength of 66.42 J/m, which is more than double that of most engineering resins in this category. Most rigid MSLA resins optimise for stiffness at the expense of toughness, producing parts that are dimensionally accurate but brittle under shock loading. Rock Black Stiff maintains a tensile modulus of 1300 MPa and tensile strength of 34 MPa while delivering impact resistance that allows printed parts to absorb and deflect sudden loads without fracturing. This makes it the appropriate choice for functional enclosures, tool bodies, brackets, jigs, and mechanical housings that will be handled, dropped, or exposed to vibration in service.

Heat deflection temperature is 80°C at 0.45 MPa, which covers the majority of engineering prototype applications: automotive cabin components, under-bonnet access housings, consumer product prototypes, and industrial tooling where ambient temperatures stay below the 80°C threshold. For applications that require heat resistance beyond 80°C, the Phrozen TR250LV or TR300 resins are the more appropriate choices.

The black pigment is a practical advantage for parts destined for direct use or review rather than painting. It eliminates the surface reflection issues that complicate detail inspection on translucent or light-coloured resins, and produces a professional finish directly off the printer that suits industrial prototype presentation without additional surface treatment.

Rock Black Stiff is compatible with all 405 nm LCD and MSLA printers across the full Phrozen range. Low shrinkage ensures dimensional accuracy is maintained through the cure cycle. The resin is suited to jigs, fixtures, structural enclosures, tool prototypes, and any functional part where toughness is the primary mechanical requirement alongside a clean, professional appearance.

3D Cast is Australia's official Phrozen distributor, stocking Rock Black Stiff with fast shipping Australia wide and direct technical support.
