Phrozen Tough PLA Filament, Gray
Phrozen Tough PLA is a 1.75 mm FDM filament designed for engineers, makers, and small businesses that need functional printed parts with better impact resistance and durability than standard PLA delivers. It retains the low-warp, low-odour, and easy-print characteristics of standard PLA while producing parts that handle mechanical stress, repeated handling, and moderate load without cracking or deforming.
Standard PLA is brittle under impact and prone to cracking when flexed. Tough PLA addresses this by modifying the polymer structure to absorb impact energy rather than fracture. The result is a filament that prints like PLA but produces parts closer in behaviour to ABS for everyday functional applications, without the warping, odour, or enclosure requirement that ABS demands.
Phrozen Tough PLA runs at a recommended nozzle temperature of 200 to 230°C and a bed temperature of 40 to 60°C. It is compatible with standard brass nozzles and works on open-frame and enclosed FDM printers including the Phrozen ARCO. No enclosure is required. The 1.75 mm diameter is consistent throughout the spool, contributing to reliable extrusion and even layer adhesion across the full print.
Common applications include functional prototypes, jigs and fixtures, structural brackets, mechanical housings, workshop tools, educational projects, and general-purpose parts where standard PLA is not durable enough. The gray colourway delivers a clean finish suitable for visual models and prototype presentations alongside functional use.

Phrozen Tough PLA is engineered for functional parts that need to survive handling and load without breaking. Common applications include snap-fit enclosures, brackets, clips, tooling jigs, and any geometry with thin walls or fine features where standard PLA would snap under stress.
Standard PLA is brittle and tends to snap at thin walls, sharp features, and load-bearing sections. Tough PLA uses a modified formulation that maintains structural integrity across the same geometry, printing at slightly higher nozzle temperatures (200 to 230 degrees Celsius versus 190 to 220 for standard PLA) with improved impact resistance and no enclosure required.
No. Phrozen Tough PLA prints reliably in open-frame setups, differentiating it from engineering filaments like ABS, ASA, and polycarbonate which require enclosed thermal environments to prevent warping.
Yes. Multi-colour functional parts can be printed without per-colour profile adjustments across the 8 available colours.
Tough PLA offers easier printing and better surface finish than ABS, with less warping and no enclosure required. Compared to PETG, it is stiffer and easier to tune, while still delivering improved toughness over standard PLA.
Yes. Phrozen Tough PLA is stocked in Australia by 3D Cast, the official Australian Phrozen distributor. Orders ship from our Bairnsdale, Victoria warehouse across all 8 colours with no minimum order quantities.
